The Gavin Chronicles, November 26, 2007

We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
praying always for you...
Colossians 1:3

Good Morning!

Wow! Thanksgiving is now behind us and we move into the Christmas season. The season of joy and giving.

Gavin has made some great strides over the past few days. As of Saturday, he is no longer on oxygen except when he is eating by bottle. He looks so beautiful without stickers on his head anymore. Without oxygen his saturations are still in the high 90's. We could not be more excited for this big step.

Gavin continues to do well with his bottle feedings (nipplings). They attempt him with a bottle about 3x a day at this point. During a typical session Gavin will take around 20-25cc of his feeding by nipple and the remainder is done via the gavage tube. A full feeding for Gavin is 34cc. He weighed in last night at 3lb 7oz.

We are still waiting on the surgeon to come and take out the Broviac. The doctors will be calling him again today. I have decided in my next life I want to be a surgeon. This surgeon is world renowned and people come from all over the world to Denver to train with him. This is the surgeon we hope to have do Gavin's final surgery hopefully sometime in late December or January. That being said.....this guy sets his own schedule and it appears he doesn't work on or around a holiday.

At this point the only thing left for Gavin to master is nippling all of his feedings and maintaining his own body temperature in an open air crib. Once he has mastered these tasks then we will be ready to talk about surgery to put his intestines back together. Recovery should take about a week and then he will be able to come home. Estimated time frame for homecoming is January although I have been told that we could possibly be optimistic for December.

Please continue to pray for us. Pray for Gavin for mastering the nippling and body temperature regulation. Pray for Colin as he begins a new job in a few weeks. Pray for us as a family for strength and peace.

Thanks again for all of your love and continued support. It means more to us than you will ever know. God has truly blessed us with wonderful people in our lives.

I have included a few new pictures. In the last photo you can see Gavin has no oxygen and no more head stickers......Yea!!!!
