The Gavin Chronicles, November 29, 2007

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Good Morning to all our faithful friends.....

Hope this email finds you all doing well and in good health.

Gavin continues to move along slowly but steadily. He remains on feedings of 34cc every 3 hours and is taking some feedings by bottle, others still by the gavage tube. He still has some difficulty with his suck, swallow, breath coordination but is getting the hang of it more and more. Problem is, he wants to eat so bad that he is frantic with the bottle and then guzzles and chokes. He requires pretty good pacing when he is taking a bottle. I have been able to breastfeed him a few times now and he does very well at it. He knows how to latch on and he does great. He weighed in last night at 3lb 8oz. Only 1 more ounce til he triples his birth weight. Unbelieveable!!!

Gavin had his first bath in a real bathtub yesterday. Up to this point he has not been able to be in a tub because of the broviac. He enjoyed his bath and looked nicely fluffed when we were finished. Nothing smells better than a Johnsons baby (shameless plug I know).

The surgeon was in and took out the Broviac on Monday and also held a brief discussion with the neonatologist regarding Gavin's reinestamosis (surgery to put reverse the illeostomy). He has committed to doing this surgery at Littleton Hospital and so we will not have to make another trip to PSL as was previously thought. The neonatologist warned me that surgeons often forget and she would remind him of the conversation regarding the surgery. This surgery will not take place until Gavin reaches 2 Kilo which is approximately 4lb 6 oz or so.

We are in the Christmas Tree shopping business these days.....debating on cutting down a tree in blustery, snowy, down right cold weather or wimping it out and getting a nice tree from a lot. Given the fact that we all need to remain healthy we may opt for the wimp out method this year. Nonetheless, the Philben family tree will be chosen in the coming days and decorated over the weekend. The kids are very excited for Christmas. In a visit with Santa last week Ian expressed to Santa that his only wish for Christmas was that Santa bring his baby brother home......at this point mom had to step aside....for obvious reasons. Thank goodness for dad who stands by strong. Poor Santa was a bit confused I think....of course I would be confused too having heard Brooke rattle off the entire Sears toy catalog as her wish list prior to talking with Ian......

Colin is awaiting his formal job offer from Lockheed sometime today or tomorrow. He is meeting with his new employer this afternoon and is really looking forward to new opportunities. At this point it looks like he will start with them sometime around mid December. The commute is so much closer to home which will not only save time but also money with the rise of gas prices. We are so proud of him for all he has done with his career.

As for me.....I am falling apart.....I have a toothache, an ankle that I believe has a stress fracture and I am sure I could think of more given a bit more time.....No worries, I will manage.....just gonna have to find a good dentist (most of you know I despise dentists) and a good ortho doc to look at my ankle. I started back to exercising and feel pretty good about it except it is somewhat painful with this ankle thing.

Hope all is well with each and every one of you. Thank you for your continued prayers and support. We will update with new pictures in the coming days.
