The Gavin Chronicles, January 18, 2008

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6

Happy Friday!!

Hope this email finds everyone winding down from their work week and ready to relax over the weekend.

Gavin has had a great week this week. He saw the eye doctor on Tuesday and got an A+ report. He has to be re-checked again in one month and that may possibly be the last time. The doctor said we would make that determination at the next appointment. Ian had an eye exam too and he passed with flying colors as well.

Gavin has been a lean mean poopin machine this week. Poor thing had a butt rash that was cleared up....now it's back again and we are working to clear it up again. Now if I could just convince Cynthia, one of Gavin's nurses, to come and monitor nudie belly time so he could get open air....life would be good. In the mean time we will try to combat it with some different creams.

Gavin had his follow up visit today with Dr. Jim, our pediatrician. Jim thinks Gavin is just incredible. I think he said that about 10 times during our short stay. Gavin had gained 5 oz this week and now weighs in at 5lb 7oz. Not too bad for one weeks time. He checked out perfect and has to be reseen again in 2 weeks. He is eating like a champ now with his intakes between 3-4 oz each feed. You can tell he is gaining weight because he is storing it in his cute little cheeks.

We will be seeing the surgeon on Monday to follow up on Gavin's surgery from December. His wound looks pretty good all in all but mommy is not too keen on the sutures that are now surfacing. They really are pretty icky looking and we are hoping that Dr. Rothenberg will clip them when he see us.

Tuesday Gavin will get to meet the Douglas County early intervention team. They will be helping us out with PT and OT for several months. I am so thankful that we have these community resources available to us.

Gavin met the dog this week for the first time. I really am not too sure who was more worried, Gavin or Avalanche. Remember Avalanche will turn 1 on Monday so he is used to being the baby in this house......and now Gavin is the baby. The pictures below tell the story quite well. In the first picture you can see Gavin's initial reaction to Avalanche. His eyes were wide as saucers. Avalanche wanted to give Gavin kisses and then you will see Gavin looking at Daddy wondering if the dog stays or goes. The final 2 pictures were taken today. Gavin had just had a bath and the kids were leaving for the stock show. They always give their baby brother a kiss and hug before they leave. Then Gavin fell fast asleep......he is so darn cute you could just kiss him.

Thanks again for all of your continued love and support. We truly could not have made it this far with out you. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers...our journey is just beginning and I am sure there may be a bump or two along the way. Right now however, we just rejoice in the moment!!!
